Default pollen filter

hi all
just dug the pollen filter out of the S80.......it is black !!!
Rang the main stealer and was told " yes,you need the expensive one...the cheap one you have in your car is not correct for the auto climate control "
collecting it tomorrow......42 quid but it's the right one and guaranteed to fit perfectly ????
parts bloke said it can affect the auto recirc function if the wrong filter is fitted.....bull**** or some element of truth ????

The correct filter is activated charcoal loaded so it's meant to be black....

The wrong filter doesn't fit the cavity as it has a poka-yoke tag on the side to prevent the wrong one going in.
I use the eBay trade Volvotradeparts (or Volvopartstrade or whatever combination of those three words) and he delivers an OE filter as part of a service box. It's a lot less than forty notes that way.

the one fitted is the thinner option of the 2...in the thinner slot
when i say black,it's muck...definitely not carbon...loads of bits fell out too...bits of leaf etc
see how new one goes tomorrow

Reach into the cavity with a damp rag and see if you can wipe some of the excess crud out.

It's not the end of the world if you buy a premium filter from the main dealer.

Cortico sells a good aftermarket IAQS filter which is German made.

I don't know how English people use the word "tag" but the orientation of the filter is dictated by a clipped corner of the otherwise rectangular filter.

What's cool about the thick filters is that they have hinges which facilitate insertion. The slots are right against the footwell so a large panel filter wouldn't fit squarely in.
