Default Gas Tank Protection found in 1961 Amazon

Hi! Good day to you all, greetings from Santiago de Chile

I am currently restoring my 1961 Volvo 122S (Chassis number 79.990) and have some doubts if the pictured gas tank protection I found in my car, is a genuine part or -if by the contrary- it was added by any of the previous owners as an extra protection against the hit of stones or debris, whilst driving on dirt roads.

This protection was bolted underneath the car to the forward part of the gas tank (3 nuts and bolts replacing same number of screws, out of the total 10 used for securing the tank) whilst the rear end was secured with two 10 mm. steel bars to a clearly non-genuine structure used to place a towing hook.

Appreciate hearing.

Best regards

Never have seen that thing. Most likely something a previous owner fitted as you suspect.
