Default Park Assist

Well, 4 days in and I could not be happier with the XC90, I actually already prefer it to my previous Q7 which I had new two years ago.

The only niggle I have which I mentioned on my pick up thread is the Park Assist.

I do not have camera's just the graphic screen view which does not automatically come on when I select 'R', it appears as I am virtually on top of an obstacle.

Is this the only default or can the screen be switched to come on as soon R is selected.

many thanks

Wes

You won’t find many people without the camera to help - it’s pretty much one extra everyone has to have.
The proximity sensor graphic seems pretty basic, not a fluid one like on bmw. I would test it out in an empty car park with some traffic cones or plastic barriers to get used to it.

Well don't worry I enabled park assist (perpendicular parking) on my new XC60 and though it turned a bit, the speed it reversed back meant before I had time to react it drove into the front corner of the car in the spot left of the parking space.

Now I am trying to determine with the insurance company if this can be really be my fault.

I think you will find the Insurance company will simply state that you are in charge of the car at all times and that Driver "Aids" are just that - Aids to assist the driver who is always in charge of the car.......

Simon, I only used my Park Assist once and never again because I don’t have any problem parking. However I don’t recall any speed involved in fact quite sedate. It only uses idling speed. You use the brake when told and not the accelerator, are you sure you did not touch it by accident, no pun intended.

I’m not sure if it is different (‘more afvanced’) on the XC60, but on my XC90 it only controls the steering, not the accelerator and brake,

I suspect it is the same and unfortunately what you have done is simply let the car roll by itself without controlling the break.

Cheers buddy. My cars of recent are all PCH hence why I do not add the extra bits although a camera would have been nice that I am sure of having had 360 degree on my last purchased car three years ago.

The key is to drive slooow when parking. The sensors and the screen comes on autimatically when you approach an obstacle. It says somewhere in the manual the approximate distances you have to be within for the system to work. I think on the front you have to be within 80cm, and in the back 150cm. Not sure, but its something around those numbers.

The system works quite well, but it is slow to respond, hence why slow maneuvering is essential. The full red/full tone will come on once within 30cm.

The system in my BMW was better (faster and more fluent as you mentioned) but the Volvo system gets the job done, just go slow when parking.

True, and to my knowledge - it's the same on the 60.
