Default Central locking solenoid inop.

The NSR door lock would not lock, even by pressing down the interior knob.
It was totally solid. This meant at home I had to park it with the door against the wall or pillar as security.

Yesterday I decided to finally have a look.
After stripping the door card off, I first unhooked the rod leading from the door lock to the quadrant below the interior knob and hey presto, it would lock and unlock. So that meant the solenoid was the problem. After removing it I was about to go in search of a replacement. However, I noticed it was screwed together. After some splitting the two halves the problem was evident. The electric motor was rusty. I sprayed it with plus gas, ventured some pliers on the gear wheel and it freed off.
I then left it to soak in plus gas over night and dried it off before rebuilding and adding sealer around the join of the two halves.
I also regreased the gear mechanism and slider before rebuilding.

A quick test before reassembly and all good.

So good old Volvo designed it to be a serviceable item rather than throw away and saved me some money.
