If I could justify cost of 8 17" rims....

Eh... First thing, I'd upgrade brakes. 😜

Michelin Crossclimates were the first all season tyre tried around 6 years ago on an Audi estate.

I didn't go back.

Have since fitted Goodyear Vector All Seasons Gen 2 (I believe there is now a Gen 3) to 2 standard V70s and the wife's BMW F31 320d Touring.

We live in the wilds of Wiltshire where no gritters / snow trucks ever venture.

The Goodyears absolutely transform & make 4WD redundant to the standard front / rear wheel drive cars we have in the cold and white stuff. BMW on summer tyres in the snow is entertaining to say the least.

The Goodyears on a 4WD would make a compelling proposition. And no need to run 2 sets of wheels / tyres.

just my opinion of course.

I see that you are planning a winter trip to the Polish mountains
I have been driving there each winter for the past few years in my XC60 with the all season Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen2. Combined with AWD those tyres performed brilliantly and never lost traction or control for a moment. I cannot compare them to full winter tyres as I have never driven on those, however, good all seasons are totally fine for those conditions.
This year, I have installed the all season Vredestein QuatracPro Pro on my new XC90 and will test them over Christmas. Fingers crossed there will be snow

Good luck and beware of heavy traffic between Krakow and Zakopane during the holiday season Also be aware that whatever tyres you choose, they should have the snowflake symbol as it is required and enforced in Germany during winter months.

Two years ago I put a set of Michelin Cross Climate + on my 2005 XC70 D5 (163) (215/65/R16) @ £400 mounted. Very pleased with them - 14K miles.

Just put on a set of Cross Climate 2:

https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/...ossClimate.htm

on my 2008 XC70 Lux Polestar 205hp 4C (235/55/R17) @ £583.96 mounted. Not cheap but safety has no price..

The Cross Climate 2 is beating the rims off the Cross Climate + - and everything else - and for you, the 215/65/R16's you're looking at is just around £400.

Read the link...
