Default Heater issues X2 !

Guys

I've done a search on this but not found anything of help.

Now that it's turned cold and damp, I have realised that I have two problems with the heater in the XC70 which I think are probably not related. I would appreciate diagnosis advice on either!

1. The heater doesn't get hot. The best it achieves is very lukewarm. The car doesn't overheat and the gauge indicates normal operation.

2. The blower vents onto the screen (top of dash) don't work. No appreciable air comes out of them even on demist setting. All other vents work fine.

Any advice greatly appreciated-thanks.

First job when the car is up to temperature is to carefully feel the two heater hoses at the back of the engine bay to see if they are both equally too hot to hold.
They should both be carrying 90°C coolant so be careful.

Vida can also confirm coolant temperature and carry out a recalibration of the heater flaps in case they've become out of sync.

Thanks for that. Heater hoses both very hot as described. I found a link to the climate module reset procedure-the voodoo stuff with the window switches etc.
Did that and the heater now blows hot!

HOWEVER there is still no airflow to the screen. I don't have VIDA-is there anything else I can try without it?

You can try pressing all of the directional airflow controls on the climate unit and the offending flap may free itself.
The benefit of Vida is that it will move every flap and motor. If Vida doesn't work, you will have to access the flap and motor via the dash which may turn into a big job.
