I did all I could. I spent in total £2000 to have the car fixed from when I got him.

Simon had got the belts to do those, final job, when he (the car) suddenly lost all his oil in our drive.

I was quoted £1000 (£500 from a garage here probably) and realised I could not in all good conscience spend another penny on him. It was literally one thing after another and each worse than the thing before. Clutch, coolant, mounts... etc etc

I wish this had happened before spending the money on engine mounts etc, but we live and learn

So in total he cost me FAR more than he would ever be worth again and he has now died.

They picked him up yesterday morning and I got the certificate of destruction last night after they looked him over.

I am so miserable but thankfully still have my Ford and may look at getting a newer Volvo at a later date

I've obviously missed something, what caused all the oil to fall out that could be a £1000 bill?!

I did not really understand. I told Simon when it started leaking and that is what he told me. If he reads this perhaps he can jump in.

He said £1000 from any garage or perhaps someone here has done it for £500

I just heard numbers and it was too much

fair enough, in that case I defer to his superior knowledge but that's a bit of a shocker eh

still though, even if you split the difference at £750, max £1000 surely that's still cheaper than another car?! especially having got so far with it

I already have another car... I had two. I am only an artist and not made of money LOL If I was then I would have kept it

Anyway, it is all moot now. It is gone

halfords are ok for stuff like aircon regas and an MOT but that's about it.

I try to DIY most stuff using Simon's videos or take it to an independant.

Halfords messed my mates CV boot up by using the wrong sort of clip (slipped off, grease came out 24 hours after "repair")

also they quoted about 800 to fix my AC which I fixed with halfords supplied "leak stop" lol

It was a lot of oil in very short time so with it being an early D5, it's going to be the core plug behind the flywheel. A ton of labour for a £15 ish part.

Being 30+ miles away though, I'm not 100% as I only had a photo to go on.
