So my clucth went while I was on the motorway ( M25) of all places left me stranded. Waited 4hrs to be collected just to get home.

Anyway as this is my beater car and I bought it for cheap I was wondering if I can just get away changing just the clucth and not the dmf.

The dmf is mostly likely screwed as the car has covered over 200k but I just need this car to run until end of march 2022.

Volvo have quoted me 145 for a full clutch kit with clutch bolts. And the slave cylinder

But the dmf is ovr 450! Thats more than the car.

So what does everyone else think? Do you think I can get away just doing this clucth until march 2022

Ours had 200k on the clock when the clutch was almost gone
If the DMF had failed you would expect to hear some rattling noises with the pedal down?

No rattling noise when the clutch is pressed down.

However the clucth sometimes gets stuck halfway sometimes

Have you bled the clutch and renewed the fluid?
A sticking pedal is very unusual so I'm wondering if that may help.

Do you have a better description of the clutch going?

I havent bled the clutch at all or changed the fluids. I've only just recently bought the car. This is purely just a winter beater I was hoping to use until end of march.

As for the clucth going I can hear it and see it slip as soon as I put my foot down. Also when i am doing 70mph its sat on 3.5I of revs.

Any who, volvo have quoted me a fair deal for a clutch kit which I will go for, but I really dont want to spend money for a dmf

just do the condition tests on the flywheel which volvo recommend , i cant remember the measurements off hand at this moment . If it was working smoothly and quietly the odds are its ok .

There definitely a rattle when the clutch isnt pressed however its quietens down whenever I press it in. But been looking for second had dmf and cant find none.

But surely if I just change the clutch and pressure plate and slave cylinder,it should last me untill march .

You know the flywheel is failing as it is rattling. It may last til March, it may not, its a risk. Personally, given the labour for the job and that it's already rattling I think the odds are not in your favour...

VolvoPartsTrade on eBay have a special offer on a genuine clutch kit with genuine DMF for £499, that looks to be great value to me!

On the flip side, the chances of the DMF failing to the point of exploding or becoming undriveable are pretty low, and it will almost certainly get obnoxiously noisy before doing so.

It really is just a risk you are either willing or not to take, no internet people are able to give you the confidence either way.
