Default Software Updates - Dealer Only?

Hi everyone

I have a really niggly issue with an odometer trip that keeps resetting.

I've done some research and it seems there is a software update that will sort it:

Quote:
TNN37-27-2004-03-12 Title: Driver Information Module Software
Trip meters T1 and T2 in the Driver Information Module (DIM) may simultaneously reset to zero without driver command in model year 2004 S80, S60, V70, V70XC, and XC90 vehicles produced from structure week 200310 through structure week 200408.

Driver Information Module upgrade software has been developed to correct this concern.

To correct Trip Meter reset, if reported on vehicles within the structure weeks above, order and download DIM Upgrade software product 30677020 using normal VADIS routines. Driver Information Module illumination (LED brightness level) will also be increased in conjunction with DIM upgrade software if no previous DIM upgrade has been performed.
Whilst I do have VIDA, is it possible to do software updates? If not can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

AFAIK software is dealer or independent with a fully licensed copy of Vida.

I'd recommend you shop around for a price as the hourly rate varies, my last software cost more in labour than the software, the independent that did the job was £125/hour, the nearest stealer wanted £235/hour!

I would also ask if the update is one included in a Volvo service. The Volvo 'Essential' Service includes a software check and updates as required.

Volvo in Cardiff quoted me £60 for a software update. I’m not aware that it takes a significant amount of time for the mechanic - don’t they just hook it up (via wifi/Bluetooth?) and let it do it’s stuff?

Thats quite reasonable , labour will be 18 minutes for a software .

Hasnt your car had a proper service since 2005 ?

Default DIM upgrade

I have the above problems of T1 and poor illumination on the replacement chrome ringed DIM, now fitted to my 2003 V70
When I asked about this software upgrade with my local Volvo dealer, he said it would cost about £80.
When I mentioned it was not the original DIM in the car, he went on to say what Clan (on this forum) has said on many occasions, that if the Volvo computer detected that I had fitted a used DIM ,it is possible that other modules would be disabled.,
The replacement DIM has already been repaired by Lukas for pixelated display windows at the bottom of the DIM.
I wonder can he repair these 2 defects.

There is the mileage issue too , It is stored elsewhere in the car too so the true mileage will always be known , when a new DIM is fitted the software finds the true mileage and embeds it in the DIM memory . Best get your own repaired ...

Well just a small update, my local dealer can only do a software update as part of an "Essentials Service" for £252, with a caveat that they sometimes brick the DIM unit when updating them on these old cars. Wonderful.

A local specialist says they can perform the update for £72, so I'll give them a go. I'll report back when its (hopefully) done.

It feels like a lot of money to fix such a small niggle, but it irritates me!
