Default V50 "Anti Skid Service Required"

Had this text on my screen today as i was driving around town.
Its a 2009 V50, well maintained.

Symptomes:
Yellow warninglight with the text "Anti Skid Sevice Required"
And it seems like the engine is a bit down on power.

However, there is no limit on either speed or revs and the ABS brakes works fine.

Any ideas on what this could be?
This is my winter car, so i am trying to keep the costs down.
I can manage some DIY jobs myselfe, so taking it to a garage is the last resort.
I am going to have the fault codes read, but if anyone have had similar problems, please comment and share ideas :-)

WI'd wait and see what VIDA or a equally capable diagnostic tool reveal.

If you've not done that yet... that'd be the sensible first step.

Until then, you're speculating.

I had the same error message - Anti-Skid Service Required. Had the Anti-Skid fault light and Engine light on all the time but no limp mode, felt like it was running OK.

Read with Vida and got a load of fault codes, I should've taken a photo but majority were ECM and some EGR.

Checked the EGR and turned out I hadn't plugged it back in properly after taking it out to clean. Once I plugged it in and cleared the codes the error message disappeared. I've come across other forum posts where a faulty EGR was causing the Anti-Skid error message.

First step if you don't have a code reader I would recommend checking the wiring / connection at the EGR (back right on the 1.6d engines)

I have read the codes today.
I got three codes related to the EGR.
The Volvo garage said best to replace the EGR.
Anyone had any experience on results on giving it a good clean?
Or is that a waste of time?

Worth a shot, it’s easy enough to remove and clean.

If you do get a replacement go genuine, I’ve read other forum posts about people replacing with 3rd party and the error persists

Tried cleaning mine, made no difference at all. Had to replace with genuine Volvo one. Aftermarket one was useless.

I had this message pop up too at the weekend.

With VIDA my codes are:
EPS-0080
ECM-D900

I believe my steering angle sensor is faulty, coincides with a bit of a rough sound when putting the steering wheel to full lock. So looking at new steering angle sensor and clockspring I think. Annoying thing is that I believe I'll need to take it to a dealer to calibrate the software after.

I had this problem on my '09 C30. I found some posts about re-seating the connectors on the ECM which I did last year and so far no repeat problems. There are a few videos on how to do this, one of the videos shows how to remove the ECM, then in the comments says there's a better way to do it. Sorry, I can't remember which video that was, but the comment was correct, so if you decide to try this, look at several videos & read the comments!

Just so everyone knows in my case. It's going to cost £350 for the part and another £135 for Volvo to download software and recalibrate the Steering Wheel Module. So about £485, or they can do the whole job for about £680.
