Default Failed MOT - Oil Leak

Hi All,

I think my core plug has let go, just been in for MOT, I know it was leaking a little oil but now appears to have gotten a lot worse!

Not sure whether to fix it or get rid of it at this point, xc90 173k miles on the clock, just failing on the oil leak...

Anyone know someone in Devon (Okehampton) who could sort at a reasonable price?

Ive been kind of waiting for this to happen to my 163 - its dodged every other 163 bullet so far, but for how long...?!

If your car is otherwise decent I'd be inclined to repair it. Where else would you be able to buy a good car for what the repair would cost?

Its a straightforward enough job. Any halfway competent garage should be able to do it in an afternoon - can your normal servicing garage not handle it?

Im fairly sure the replacement plug is metal rather than polymer like the original - perhaps one of the other chaps could conform that?

On the P2 XC90 the quickest method of repair is to remove the engine - either lift from above or drop the entire subframe.

Hence it's a good time to do the belts if they're near due and any seals...

So I had a cambelt change probably 3 years ago now, they left the waterpump as it was fine.

Do you think there's anything else they should do? Was thinking crankshaft seal at the same time?

Is it worth getting the torque convertor reconditioned?
