Default Geartronic sticking in Park

Got in lastnight and when I started it wouldn't budge out of park. Turned ignition off and on a few times and it worked fine.
Has done it on me a few times today. It's fine when ignition left on, just when it's turned off then on again.

Assuming there is a switch of sorts for the ignition to tell the box that it's on so that gear can be changed. If so does it sound like that's the fault, where is it and how much ££?

Cheers in advance

if its similar to the 1998 S80 I once had, there is an interlock that stops the stick moving, I think you can see it if you remove the surround, and may be able to just disengage it. I can't remember how I fixed it, I think just a new unit - its just a simple solenoid.

Hey,

I had this exact same problem for a little while..

1) If I turn the key on slowly, it would stick in park, if I turned the key on quickly I could shift out of park no problem
2) I took off the passenger side cover and watched the mechanism move as I turn the key on and off, so if it didn't work I could quickly fix it / I also lubricated the mechanism to make it easier for the electronics to move the mechanism
3) When I replaced the car battery, I have not had any problems since.

hope this helps!

Cheers for replies, advice came in handy mate managed to sort it, sticking cable/mechanism

Must remember the key thing and funnily enough the battery drained on me, been fine since I jumped it, but something to keep an eye on.
