Default Rear Cigar lighter

My 2003 V70 estate has a cigar lighter socket in the rear cargo area. It would be nice to use it to power a rear dashcam but its permanently live, and I'd like it to only be live when the engine is running. Is there a simple wiring change I could make at the front somewhere to convert it to an ignition-switchable cigar lighter socket?

Just take a feed from the tow hitch connector wiring, by the spare wheel

You'll find the earth pretty much immediately and one of the others is ignition switched live.. Well technically side lights but on a volvo it amounts to the same thing

Incidentally anything wired up this way will also switch on when you use the yellow button on the remote, which may be either useful or just something to bear in mind. I figured this out recently when I realised my sub amp was all lit up and then twigged aha I just remotely switched on my lights

Thanks Stuart - good idea - I'd forgotten about the tow hitch! Earlier today I had taken the car to a garage that specialises in car audio, alarms, etc - they saw the tow hitch but hadn't suggested using its power-supply!

...actually - couldn't I use the power supply to the rear windscreen wiper motor?

If you want a really elegant solution you could check for an AEM (Auxiliary Electronic Module) or fit one if not already there. It would normally live under the floor of the cargo area on the RH side. The connector is under the floor close to the rear power outlet. This little box will give you a proper switched ignition feed. You can download the AEM fitting instructions from Volvo's website and they will show you where the module is fitted.

If the AEM isn't already installed it's worth checking if you need the harness, some cars had it pre-installed others didn't. If yours isn't it worth asking the seller of the AEM if they can supply that at the same time.
