Default Rear Hand Brakes Locking On

Hi All,

I've noticed recently that the rear handbrakes on my 2005 V70 seem to stick when I first use the car in the morning. I release the handbrake and reverse and there is a definite pulling feeling at the rear, and then there is a clunk and they are free. In normal use, the brakes work fine, and the handbrake continues to hold the the car even on a slope.

I'm driving it most days, so don't think it is just corrosion on the discs that is locking them. Is this a known problem? Have you any ideas on how to fix them or will the brakes need replacing? Will need to go to a mechanic as I'm not confident tackling brakes but it will save time and money if I can tell them the most likely cause of the problem.

Thanks

When did you last check the condition of the shoes, inside surface of the disk and the cable operation ? Now might be the time for an overhaul .. They are very long lasting ...but need use and adjustment of the cable to keep them working properly . You might find some gentle use on the move to clean up the surfaces might help followed by an adjustment when it has all cooled down .

IF you change the shoes get GSF ones, I got Euro Car Parts and they were ever so slightly longer so didnt fit the disc back on.

also get a couple packs of the fitting kits just in case you bend or break any retaining springs.

when all is in good condition you could get it to hold on the 2nd click and lock the wheels on the third , maybe forth click .
