Default 2.3 turbo non start issue

first major issue with my 940 turbo since owning iv got a good spark and good fuel pressure at the rail but the cars refusing to start so narrowed down to fuel delivery problem so thinking the ecu is shot or could there be anything else new to 940’s so any help would be great!

Hello,

Please can you say what year and engine and a bit more about the problem. E.g. has it suddenly ceased to start, does it crank, were there any signs of a problem whilst it last ran, what makes you suspect the ECU?

If you are suspecting mixture/timing problems, it would be a good move to check the error codes using the LED probe / OBDII socket (depending on year and model) and establish whether rich/lean and whether cylinder specific or all four.

I'd also be tempted to check the really easy things like fuses and that all the vacuum/intake hoses look secure.

Cheers,

David

Later cars have an OBD port in the centre console cubby (under the hinged armrest). There will be a tab at the bottom of the cubby which pops out with a screwdriver to reveal the port.

But, I think 1995 has the diag unit under the bonnet.

Is it holding coolant okay?

Fuel delivery- why do you suspect that? Try the fuel pump relay first.

95 uses a LED flasher in the engine bay, you don't need a reader and there is no OBD2 socket, that came in 96.

IF your diagnosis is correct, then the immediate suspect is the injector power relay that provides a common 12V. There should be 12V on one of the injector pins with ignition on, the ECU provides ground to control the dwell.

Another possiblity is the AFM, or the puel pressure regulator, ie not enough pressure.

If you have the OBD connector that's a good port of call. I bought a code-reading box from a forum member called Alf. He may still make them for sale. Loki used to offer them too. Or there are instructions on the forum for making one up. Few options to search?

If the MAF has failed, the engine will still start, it just won't rev up.

However if the CPS has failed, you will get neither spark or fuel pumps/injector operation. Have a look at the condition of the wiring to the CPS (it's on the top of the bellhousing) and if the wiring looks dodgy, start investigating there.
Have you tried EasyStart to prove the engine will run with the fuel problem sorted?
