Good suggestion. I'm leaning towards it being a dodgy or high resistance connection somewhere in the CEM region. One suggestion for Mike to try is to disconnect and re-seat the fuses and relays in the engine bay which might improve the connectivity.
The problems started shorly after the battery was replaced and I believe Mike has subsequently ensured all the connections to it are sound as well as disconnecting it for 5+ minutes to give all the modules a good reset. |

Continuing problems
Hi, very many thanks to Simon for posting my test results, my issues remain although everything worked absolutely fine on my way home until I switched off at the chip shop! Upon restarting the radio came on normally for 10secs then went off with the central display blank as in off completely - then came back again after about 3secs and was fine all the way home, about 6 miles. Next morning came on fine - went to meeting - came on fine after, used car later and central display dead, will see what happens when we fire it up this morning.
Getting to the point where I might fire it up literally!!! Thanks for your replies guys, It is nice to share the suffering. Mike |

Update on problem
Hi all those who have been following this thread,
I had a "little man" come and look at the car, he was recomended by a friend and had fixed his Audi. He came to the conclusion that it was probbably the amplifier but could not be sure as it would not turn on. He had read allthe codes and there were a lot of definite communication errors. I rang a guy at Volvodiagnostics.com called " Lukar" - he said unlikely to be the amp and more likely to be the ICM (i think) telling me I would have to have the center console out to remove it and send it to him - cost of £180 to exchange but no guarantee it would solve the problem! All too challenging for me so I chickened out and part exchanged it for another Volvo D4 V70 having told them of my issues. Thanks to all those who tried to help me. End of story. |

Thanks for the update Mike. You've probably made a sensible decision as you could have been chasing your tail for ages.

This thread had been dead for ages - so I didn't report back.
My problem was resolved (after much fiddling about by the dealer) and was solved by fitting a new ICM. Just within warranty IIRC! The cars are great, but I'm beginning to wonder about all the electronics.... |
