Seems a shame
Assuming it's the G80 locker it seems a shame to bin it. If there's still oil in the back axle then why is the diff assumed to need rebuild? Mind you collect from Dudley is not a lot of use to me on the Isle of Grain!

Removing the crownwheel is easier if you cut the thin metal oil slinger with snips. Then the crucial centre bit is quite compact and postable. Forget about the CWP. Hope this helps, James. |

So you're suggesting...
So then I'd simply put the G80 into my existing axle? No pfaffing about adjusting the backlash and so on? And what about replacing the little oil flinger?

Assuming you are happy with your diff ratio, it was quite easy. Forget the oil slinger, or you can cut one notch for access to the crown wheel bolts and wiggle it round to each one in turn. I binned it, no obvious ill effects, but your choice. To remove and replace it needs a press and special tools to get the bearing right- best left alone. torque tighten the bolts evenly. Back lash? before stripping your axle , feel how much there is and make a mental note. Recheck after fitting the G80, it should be pretty much the same (mine was) I don't have dial gauges etc, but it worked for me and is not clonky. try and get the alloy cover too, as it has a filter in it - perhaps most later 900s have this anyway? I had my own speedo problems but for a 900 it should all work fine. Have fun, they are great in the snow. Last edited by heckflosse; Jul 11th, 2014 at 09:58. Reason: more |
