How do you know the T/F box is on the way out?

You might get away with not removing the T/F box, try removing the main drive shaft, held on by 8 hex bolts either end, easy to remove on a ramp.

I am not 100% on the t/f case as i havent really gotten that far, I took the prop off and alot of the noise and vibration has eased, im certain there is a bearing on its way out in there and hopefully the bevel gears are still good, but i dont know how the power gets to the t/f case.

The drive to the T/F box comes directly from the gearbox.

don't forget you are modifying the vehicle in effect affecting its original specification for the worse .. , the insurance may not be too happy ..

I have already taken off the prop ages ago so I dont think its an actual modification, but if i dont disconnect the box then its all gonna break.
But i cant see where to start, Im totally lost on this one.
Is anyone able to explain how to remove the main shaft on /in the transfer box so i can drive it, would be a great help

Thanks Dmw

What you are doing could backfire big time! As clan said, insurance wont be happy especially if you spin off the road due to lack of traction and cause an accident.

Anyway, you wont be able to remove the transfer box or drive to it because then you wont have drive to your RH wheel. Have your symptoms gone completely since removing the prop? if so, how do you know the problem isnt the prop or rear diff? The rear diff will still be turning with no prop. Be careful with what you are doing and consider getting it checked out properly

A lot of people have had the awd disconnected because of a catastrophic failure in the transfer box.

After finding an exploded drawing of the transfer box and drive train im begining to understand how its put together.

When the front left wheel is raised if you drive the car then the car tries to drive off the back wheels, so the front right drive shaft must go thru the beval gear and its shaft to the diff, if it was driven off just the right shaft then in theory if the left wheel is on a real slippery surface and spinning it wouldnt move defeating the point of AWD, so by removing the beval gear and the shaft its pressed onto, i can still drive it, but its pulling it apart that is the problem, but i did find a short previous post regarding how to do it sort of.

Thanks for the mentioning it though.
