The Camberwell Mods
No, not a bunch of vespa-riding spivs in a 1960's timewarp...
I refer of course to the Volvo Green Book-approved modification of the front strut top-hat that increases wheel camber and so improves cornering response while decreasing tyre wear. Before I go wildly drill holes and such, are there any words of advice from the initiated, and does anyone have or know where I can find the actual green book notice on the mod? |

It doesn’t make a huge difference to the way the car drives, but apparently stops the weird tyre wear.
It’s easy to do (I did it) You don’t have to do it if you lower the car, as that changes the camber anyway.

There's a method in this section Ash :
https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/FrontSuspension.html I think some cars also had an extra mounting hole in the suspension turret and also that you can buy modified strut tops. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-740...g/123321667143 Might be worth looking into both options!

Its a case of slotting the holes to allow adjustment. You do get a little extra but not a lot.
Bolt in camber plates give more adjustment https://www.classicswede.co.uk/700_a..._19198651.aspx |

1. Loosen strut top bolts
2. Jack car up on one side 3. Remove front strut too nut and bolt 4. Rotate strut inwards around the rear bolt (until it stops) 5. Drill new hole in strut top (not bodyshell). 6. Put nut and bolt back in. 7. Drop car to ground 8. Tighten bolts 9. Repeat other side. That gives you around 1 degree of negative camber adjustment on the front and is the official Volvo fix for the weird tyre wear. Takes 10mins max each side. If I can find the Volvo tech bulletin I’ll post it up but I’m pretty sure that’s the method that I followed when I did a lot of research about it when I did it.
