Gents, I took a deposit on the car on Saturday, was the first person to view the car. Nice guy, really likes the car and I think he'll really look after it, so very pleased it will go to good home!

On the test drive it's the first time I've been a passenger in the car, and I think you appreciate the sound and power of the T5 even more when you're not the one controlling the gas pedal... made me wish even more that a lovely V50 T5 had popped up! Will keep half an eye out just in case a unicorn pops up, which will probably happen once I have got the Beemer exactly as I want it!

Thanks! I'll have a look. One popped up on AT this morning. £5k with a 130k miles... too many miles for the money I think.

Cheers for keeping us updated, just out of interest where did the buyer see the car advertised? I saw your advert on PH and it was the best one on there.

Thanks kmb! There was about 3 on PH, which is more than normal! Buyer was through Autotrader, and I figured AT was the best market for it. Stuck it on eBay too: lots of messages but most not serious I thought, but there was one very keen guy who was due down on Sunday via eBay that I had to cancel as it sold on the Sat. Not sure I got any interest via PH: IMO PH is good for more expensive/performance stuff.

Oh hey guys, you know I said I'd taken a deposit, you didn't think that meant I'd sold it did you??

'Buyer' has just explained that he's just picked up 3 points on his licence, got quoted a lower price for his car as he went to trade it in today, and had much higher insurance quotes on the C30 than he thought he'd get... he's a smart guy so a little surprised he never got quotes prior to even coming down all the way from Wales to view it on Saturday.

Strangely enough I doubted him after he left on Saturday (and left the AT ad up), but over email yesterday he confirmed he was 100% coming tomorrow to collect... ah well. The real shame is I was rushing around so much on Saturday to meet him and spent maybe 1.5/2 hours with him, plus there must be 30+ emails between us... won't get that time back but we move on!

Good point on the loan: he did mention something about a rate of 7.9% as he had to make up the funds to cover the loss on his current car. Sounds plausible but who really knows. Massive schoolboy error to travel 3 hours and put a deposit on something without doing the basics. My only regret on all this is how much time I've wasted with him... especially on Saturday. But selling a car privately can often be a ball ache!

Sorry to read about the aborted sale, but it may be worthwhile to quiz further prospective viewers on this subject before any firm arrangements are made?

I accept that private buyers can be a fickle bunch and you never know what excuses they may find to back away from completion. Common ones seem to be finance, permission, insurance and will it fit in the work carpark.

Anyway, hope your C30 finds an enthusiast buyer.

That's a pain, but at least you get to keep the deposit, even if this hasn't fully covered the inconvenience.
