Even if there was something it likely wouldn't be cheaper considering how much sought after this part is.
760/960 dash is different from 740/940 and the radio frame wouldn't fit without significant modifications.
I didn’t know the 960 dash was different.

The only problem with a double din in a 940 is that a couple of the relays clash with the back of the double din but this is easily sorted by mounting them remotely.

From a quick ebay search, it would seem the 960 and 760 upper console are the same animal, given many later 960s had the double-DIN head unit, perhaps swap the upper console completely?

As i said before the dash in 7/940 is not the same as in 7/960. The centre console (& radio frame) is not the same either and is not interchangeable.
Installing a double din radio to a 760 or 960 is not an issue even if it originally came with single din unit as it was meant to house double din stereos as well. Just hack away the middle divider and you're good to go.
The 740 and 940 only came with a single din radio. The original radio compartment is this weird 1.5 din hole and under that is the storage compartment/cigarette lighter. 780 has the same centre console as 740/940 but the radio frame was intended for 2 single din units (f.e radio & equaliser or separate tape player) and has a smaller storage compartment. The ashtray part was the same as 740.

Thats not right. Volvo make a double DIN surround for the 760, part number is 6840206 and it cost £28 when I bought one about 18months ago and its still showing available from Volvo. I then fitted the Double DIN SC-805 into my 760 using that surround.

To clarify again this is an issue only with 740 & 940. You rich folks with your luxury automobiles (760 & 960) will not be facing this problem

As has been said before this won’t work.

960 dash panel is different to a 940, the ashtray section, the stereo section and the heater section are all separated by the wooden strips of the main surround so are different shapes with different mounts. See pics.

Please stop saying they are the same!!
