Default '96 850r diagnostics

Hi folks. What's the cheapest, yet reliable, way of reading faults on a '96 850r? Info on t'internets is a bit mixed, with some folk saying you need a specific Volvo reader, others saying OBDII under the ashtray is standard, and still others saying it's only partial. Ideal for me would be something I can use in other cars down the road.

Diagnostics is new to me, so go easy.

Thanks, Adam

I feel your pain. I'm confused by it all too. I had mine checked by Yosser using a home brewed flash reader which flash out the fault codes morse code style... but I also though Vol-FCR would work and so bough a kit with software and as of yet, haven't been able to get it to work. So whilst they have an OBDII port, they aren't fully OBDII complient and thus you need to make a flash code reader...

This is where I'm at with mine, still trying to get Vol-FCR to work...

Thats correct, even though the 96 850R has and OBD port it was on the change over year so is not fully compliant. Vol-FCR wont read it only a flash code reader
