Maybe a bit stupid to say but brake fluid has a bit of a yellow tinge to it. As someone put the wrong stuff in the wrong reservoir? only a thought!

That sounds a very plausible suggestion.

Definitely needs everything draining and refilling with CHF 11S.

This is the stuff I bought recently to do mine.

Febi CHF 11S Is green.... which is the correct Hydraulic Fluid for power steering.

Don't take chances mate, its easy to do and doesn't cost the earth.

Hi
I’ve bought the green CHF and will change it the first chance I get (the car isn’t in use) just been busier than expected.

I still think Febi 02615 is yellow and wonder if the original fluid was changed in an attempt to sort the problem (unless it was changed and caused the problem!)

Tonight I have noticed the return pipe is kinked about 5” before the resovoir where it bends under the coolant tank, wonder how much of a restriction it is and if that’s part of the problem ?

I agree with you. It is yellow, Its also a SUSPENSION fluid, not power steering fluid.

Changing the fluid for CHF 11S (correct fluid) and sorting that kink out, I can only think it will have a positive affect. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing that.

I had a notiicable steering wheel shudder when turning right and left in my car. Garage had said it was wheel scrub and needed tracking. All plausible, but it didn't alter a thing.

After a change of fluid it was 100% better and the shudder had gone, and that was with the correct fluid in, but it had deteriorated enough to cause me an issue.

Every couple of years a 1ltr change as part of a service is my routine now. To keep the oil specs in tolerance on such a big car.

Hi
Well the fluid is now green, the kinked pipe removed and the front tyres are at 38psi, but unfortunately no change to the steering. Still feels unassisted until the car moves, no noises or groans though.

Too low , you will find the edges wearing off long term . Depends how many corners you take too ;-)

Default Power steering pump

My XC70 had filthy pas fluid when I got the car, I removed it by using this method.

Drain the resovior.
Remove the return pipe and route into a waste collector, I used a water bottle.
Block the return pipe hole in the resovior.
With the front wheels on plastic bags manually turn the steering wheel lock to lock and the fluid pumps out the return.
Keep topping up the resovior until it's clean.
It's a nice steady way to change the fluid.

My steering is slightly heavy on tickover, maybe these pas pumps are not speed sensitive?
