I think it must be the breeding season for 240s down hereabouts! There was a nice looking red one on the road from Bodmin going towards Fowey this afternoon (and the driver waved too, a bit of a rarity nowadays) then while my stepdaughter was waiting for me in Wadebridge she saw a white one, she thought at first that it was ours. It's good to know that there are still at least a few in regular use.

Saw yet another today, a G reg. red estate coming out of the garage on Tywardreath Highway. Don't think the driver noticed us, as he was looking the other way, but the car did look quite well cared-for. I suppose it might have been the one I mentioned in 261 but I think that was a K reg.

Saw a silver 240 GLT saloon coming out of Tesco Kidsgrove, Staffs. Driver gave a cheery wave.. I flashed my headlights and nearly hit a Landrover who thought I was flashing him out of a junction....

I saw a rather tidy red, E-registered, estate in Stretton (Warrington) around 11:15 yesterday; it had a large Earl Haig Poppy on the grille and appeared to have a large antenna on the roof.

All of the other volvos are much newer V70, S40, S80, S60 etc. You see more newer volvos than old.

It must be because the tax on the older ones on the engine size for a 2.3l is 895 euros per year where as the modern diesels are cheaper to tax. Taxable on their emmisions level.

My 240 GLT is the only 240 I have seen in Ireland

Right there can't say I have actually seen oned in Ireland, not the tax mate, Ireland was never a destination for Volvo in the good old day's they got as far as Fishguard and then turned round, it is only in recdent times they have cottoned on to the best car in the world.
There was a nice 940 in Dungarvan yesterday, silver, old couple driving, there is one parked in Callan, but no 240's.

I certainly haven't seen any since Saw what I think was a lovely white 145 Think it was in Adare many months ago.

There are very few older volvos in my area of Cork/Kerry/Limerick border.

I would love a pre 1980 for much cheaper tax

I was looking for this thread for ages yesterday but couldn't find it!

I saw a stunning white saloon enter the M25 northbound from the A320 yesterday at 7pm.

Also now several times seen a scruffy white estate in Havant but he completely ignores me even though we've driven straight past each other...

Wasn't there some sort of very generous "scrappage scheme" in Ireland in the early 90's? I'm sure that saw off much of the older stuff. I remember seeing stacks of dead cars when I went over years ago.
