Default Is this an Engine Mount issue?

I have a '98 V40 T4, when started from cold the steering wheel vibrates, so much so it's clearly visible, but when warm this goes away.

It also goes away when I reverse the car, the car is very very smooth in reverse, but once in first, it again feels like I'm in a tractor.

Is this down to a worn engine mount? if so, which one is it most likely to be?

Probably the top right hand mount, a common failure on the phase 1 T4.

If you come off the clutch too fast do you get a knock from the same area?

Old vs new:

Thanks for the reply Baffler.

No knock, only symptom is the bad vibration until the car is warm.

I was looking at those mounts, seem to be around the £100 mark - is that right?

If the mount is starting to wear the knock will eventually develop. If you have someone come off/on the clutch while you watch for movement you will be able to determine whether they are shot or not.

Yes, in or around the 100 mark. Try Rufe for a price - it's heavy though so postage might catch you.

Also, check the lower front and rear anchorages for cracks/breaks in the rubber.

Here are some new ones:
