Default Can you identify this engine part?!

Hello one and all!

Another newbie with another silly question!!

I am currently in the market for a s40 1.8 2002 and viewed a likely candidate this evening. However, there appeared to be part of the engine missing.... I have looked everywhere to find a picture of what seemed to be missing. My question is does anyone know what it is, what it does and whether it matter that the car in question does not have it?!

Car.jpg

Its the tube highlighted that it missing.

Many thanks
Stuart

That is the hot air intake pipe for colder climates, it draws hot air direct from the exhaust manifold to the air intake, not really required in the uk, a lot of the forum members have removed this pipe and blanked off the hole in the filter box to get a better cold air feed.

^^^^ but if i remember right there is a vacuum flap in the air filter box that blocks this of as the engine warms up so blanking of will make no difference.

The vacuum flap is on the cold air intake side of the airbox and it invariably siezes up rendering it useless.
