Default V70 Handbrake cables - Disks not fitting

Hoping someone can help, pulling my hair out today.

Failed MOT on handbrake efficiency by 1% so I fitted need shoes to the back, struggling to get one disk back on I came to conclusion that one of the cables wasn't pulling properly, probably frozen.

So I've replaced both handbrake cables today and decided to put new disks on to avoid any lips etc.

All reassembled and I can no longer get either disk on, new or old.

I've backed the adjuster right off so I can't see how it's that. I just can't see the pads going any closer together to allow the disks on but surely with new disks they should slip over quite easily?

I thought I'd maybe assembled something wrong but having scratched my head all day I just can't see it. Both sides are pulling with the handbrake now.

Anyone encountered this or can offer and help please?

when you say 'adjuster' do you mean the standard one at the handbrake handle end or have you added the ones in the hubs as well

if the latter have you tried with the original H shaped brackets back in instead

pictures might help us see what's going on, at he hub and under the front arm rest just in case somethings going on there ?

what brand of shoes are you using

did you remove / clean up / regrease the expander pieces. presumably you had them out when replacing the cables. is the end of the cable correctly located in there (not really a way I can think of to get that wrong though in fairness)

I just have the standard adjuster brake lever end. I did see the video where someone fitted the P1 adjusters.

I'll try and post pics tomorrow. I am using the standard H brackets.

Shoes are Delphi. Expanders seem ok but greased anyway.

hmmm

possibly the shoes then, people do say only the volvo ones are good for friction anyway and it's possible the geometry is off on the aftermarket ones, can you compare them to the old ones if you haven't binned them yet?

I've got the adjusters on mine as well they're pretty handy but they don't go any smaller than the original brackets

Make sure the shoes are sitting correctly on the spreader bar and the expander. If they are not then suspect the cables are either incorrect or not fitted correctly

I am hoping it's something simple.so.ill check tomorrow thanks. Will.post pics when I can.

Cables seemed to go in ok and sizes were same.as existing cables. I've never fitted before so could have done something wrong but not sure how.

I am seeing movement on the shoes when handbrake pulled up, not sure it's 100%, just trying to find a video that shows the correct operation.

You need to make sure the shoes are fitted & sitting fully home as per the arrows.

OK so one side now appears ok, I didn't quite have the H bracket located properly and disk is now fitting.

Other side still not playing ball, attached pics below, the shoe isn't quite sitting properly I don't think. I haven't got the springs in firmly yet either.
