The brake shoe is not sitting correctly where the yellow arrows are pointing, there should be no gap between the shoe metal and backplate block. Either the expander is not fitted properly or the cable is sticking or not fitted correctly.

Am I correct in thinking the expander just hooks into the bracket on the end of the brake cable? It seems to sit there ok but does fall out if moved, should it 'click' in place?

Cable all seems ok although this side didn't come out quite as far to fit the expander.

just to throw a spanner in the works, on mine there is a gap at that yellow arrow..

that's the reason why you get that unsettling roll-back when you park on a hill and take your foot off the brake, I've heard other people mention that as well so it can't just be on mine

still though the cable end does need a bit of a tug to fully locate, that could definitely be a reason why you're not getting full release

if unsure show us a pic of that but I appreciate that does require taking the springs off again which is a pain

bear in mind as well, when you do then use the adjuster up front to make the handbrake work on only 2 or 3 clicks, then you're opening that gap up even further

or to put it another way if your shoes are resting on those blocks then you're probably pointing the handbrake lever up to the roof every time you use it

part of the reason why the in-hub adjusters are good - not only can you adjust them individually to make sure both sides are operating equally, you can also take up a lot of adjustment and rely less on the main adjuster (i.e. you're closer to those blocks on the other side)

(but obviously don't go too mad, make sure the wheels still spin freely when disengaged)

yeah it was the other end I was thinking about though, where the block on the end of the cable locks in, not sure if you can see that without pulling it out from the other side

it does all look like it would benefit from a bit of wirebrushing and a dab of copperslip though

if you have time to leave it soaking in extra strength white vinegar overnight, even better

that's not re: the cause of it not fitting though it's just less chance of it getting all stiff and not releasing properly down the line

Tried OEM shoes as very slightly different from Delphi bit still no go.

Refitted old shoes and disk does go back on ok. Still some meat on these so wondering if just give it a go and revisit when I can.....need the MOT retest and back in the road asap.
