Default a long haul

well its been three months since bob arrived!!! i have done a few odd jobs on him in that time i have and im no expert but was on a learning curve!! tools in hand, apart from the normal service items like spark plugs etc i have.....
changed the front grill
fitted black trim to both bumpers
new headlight relectors
new clear front and side indicators
new exhaust
brakes all round
handbrakes cables
engine mounts
refurb front calipers
battery
refurbished alloy wheels
upper door rubbing strips
rear bumper brackets
towbar
fixed the horn
fixed the central locking
fixed rear doors as neither would open
new tailgate that has no rust just needed a good clean
new number plates
new bulbs all round
undersealed
new locking fuel cap
fitted cd player with joystick remote
fitted alarm
new sump plug
rear headrests and pads
rear arches rust treated and touched up
new rear light lenses in clear are on the way!!
a volvo froum sticker!!!

booked in a few weeks for new clutch and rear seal hence the tub underneath to catch drips and cambelt after that and then its mot time though im sure that something is going to be needed to be done for him to pass

then its the rear wheel arch panels to have painted as they have been done before but badly painted........my mates think im absolutely nuts for spending so much time and money on him but i think its well worth it, so far its a total cost of nearly £700 not including the clutch!!! but i dont care so heres a few before and after pics what do you all think? so thanks to all for the help and the how tos!!!
i was pondering on doing the alloy wheels again but in black???

Dont those lenses make a difference ! - front looks SO much cleaner and the tailgate is a massive improvement. Not sure about black alloys though - anthracite maybe ? on Virgos perhaps ? - be much easier to clean, those must be PITA ! Oh and BTW maybe GLT springs on the front just to drop it slightly

Very nice 240...Thats an impressive list you"ve done there..but tackling these jobs gets you in sync with the health of the car and reduces the nasty suprises that you can get if you turn your back on maintenance for a couple of seasons..good job and well done..hj.

i had thought about new springs but now i just want to get it motd and on the go!!! probably do it later, but it does look high at the front, apparnatly according to the sales brochure for the se and torslanda all se models came with " automatic load compensating suspension".

i have toyed with the idea of putting some stripes along the bottom similar to the torslanda, cant make my mind up.

Nice car! I've been doing the same list since I got mine- I can say that £700 is nothing really compared to modern cars- thats 3 months of payments on a dreary Mondeo, or the price of a new 'indicator ECU' or any other pointless electrical box that breaks and renders something modern useless.

When you're done, you'll have a car good for many years, and no payment. When the recession REALLY bites, you'll be driving proud, while everybody else will be having their new cars repossessed.

The 240 is probably the last car made that you can keep forever. Perfect for the world we live in.

cheers,
Brian

Wow, that's fab work! I've not really achieved a great deal more in over 7 years with mine! LOL. Well may be a bit but certainly not at your speed!

The alloys are great as they are. Silver! I always think that blackened ones just look like they're covered in brake dust! Just my opinion
