Thanks all...
Ok checked air filter that looks quite new. Put £10 Shell fuel in a bit of injection cleaner , will run that through then fill with Shell.

Is there anyway i can find if it has been mapped? as stated above i would assume the EGR been blanked would put a light on.

I will have another look for boost leaks hopefully later today/tomorrow.

Update..
Boost pipes leaks - cannot find any.
DPF - Cannot find any evidence it has been cut open

If you raise revs slowly to 4.5k no smoke ( Stationery)
No smoke really in 2nd gear even pushing it. But in 3rd it chucks out a black puff ( Rear bumper has soot on it).

Am i been to picky? do they all do it flooring in 3rd gear?

I have compared it to my Mondeo which has the same engine, Mondeo chucks out nothing that is a 62 plate with more miles than the Volvo.

Thanks

The engine light will come on if egr is blanked and left plugged in. You need to unplug the grey connector and clear the light, it shouldn't come back on. Mine has been blanked and disconnected for about 4 yrs and no eml comes on!

My EGR was blanked and plugged in with no light on dash ?

I have now in addition checked intercooler for leaks, cleaned EGR and unblanked it.

I am a bit stuck now what else can be causing the smoke.

Throttle body has been cleaned
EGR cleaned and unblanked
cannot find any boost leaks
DPF does not seem to be gutted ( Cannot find evidence of welding)
Its on BP fuel and had injection cleaner.

It is just that 3rd gear put your foot down and black smoke/soot enough to make bumper go black.

I am starting to suspect it may have been re-mapped, but do not know how to check

Anyone any other ideas what could cause smoke, before starting blaming injectors/turbos etc.

thanks

You've not had it long have you? Any idea how the previous owner drove?

Was it like Driving Miss Daisy or like driving the Nurburgring flat out?

If it's the former, there's a very high chance it would benefit from an Italian decoke followed by a long, fast, motorway cruise to give the DPF a chance to self-regenerate.

SOmething else that has just crossed my mind - where does the temperature gauge sit after the first 5-10 minutes?

Hello,

The temp just sits in the middle I have had no issues with it.

Today did a full code scan with a snap on reader, couple of codes

0005 tank level additive fault.
3A00 ecm software faulty signal.

I disconnected the egr plug started car, no light and no fault codes for the egr... I am suspecting some silly person has mapped it surely should log a code with it disconnected.

Thanks

As stated here, give the car a good hard drive and get the revs high for a few days to blow the crap out of the engine, may have spent a lot of time plodding about town and in traffic? Shouldn't do any harm either way!

yes there should be a code when disconnected and usually throws a light when left connected. I wonder if its been bypassed in some way? Mines been blanked and unplugged for a few years and have no problems with smoke!
