My more recent experiences of Mintex is poor, just taken the rear disc off my wife’s V50 which were Mintex. They have done 50k but the surfaces has worn as though the pads were made of course sandpaper and they have several cracks in them. Took the front ones off after about 10k due to judder.
Yes they are affordable but they aren’t as good I think. Genuine discs and pads always wear almost like a mirror finish.

Pads and discs need to be matched for hardness. Some discs are deliberately made of softer steel to maximise grip and need softer compounded pads to provide grip without tearing the surface off the discs. I'm not sure about Volvo but a previous car I owned wore discs out quickly if you didn't use OEM pads with OEM discs and further down the line even some of the OEM pads were harder than optimum and you needed to buy OEM and check who manufactured them! Volvo discs may not be so delicate but I'd always seek to match the pad supplied to the disc supplier.
Many owners have the mistraken belief that fitting track or racing pads will give them better braking when these track pads are made from very hard compound for very high speed braking with very hard discs and provide little grip on road discs at road speeds and wear out the discs very quickly. But they do get to put a "Racing" sticker on their bumper!

On my now sold V70 the last pads I had fitted were Teves, excellent braking. The disks were first changed at 50,000 and were still on the car when I sold it at 130,000 miles

If you want Volvo, look at these:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-S80...72.m2748.l2649 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-S80...72.m2748.l2649 Given that my original discs have lasted 100k front and rear, I reckon that is good value. Their other service kits etc look good value too. |

Hi All,
Thanks for all your replies. So looks like I’ll be fine with the Pagid brakes, but there’s a niggling feeling that I should bite the bullet and go genuine. I’ve got a couple of weeks to decide, so no rush. Thanks again, and enjoy the rest of this glorious weekend! Nick |
