T4 01' Y Reg Auto. Shall i Chip????????
Hi All,
Just after a bit of advice really. I want more power!!! (Dont we all) and i have contacted Simon Coe at Upsolute about chipping my car. Here is the reply:- Please find attached the figures for your vehicle. You will hopefully see a slight improvement in economy also. The fully inclusive cost of the upgrade is £305, I can travel to you to carry out the work if required which takes approx 2 hours. With the upgrade you should see a marked improvement in the throttle response of the car and the low to mid range torque, negating the need to always change down a gear for overtaking etc – thus the economy improvement. Seems a bloody good deal to me but just wandering if anyone else has any experience with this company???? Cheers All http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/dc/user_files/519.jpg |

Does seem like a bargain.
Do they offer a money back guarantee though if you're not satisfied with the improvements? A money back guarantee would suggest they are confident in the product and are also confident yoou'll be satisfied with it. Regards Andy |

American volvo lovers seem to be right into the upsolute chip so it's probably a decent deal, you may even see a few more horsepower than that as your car should be a 2.0 T4 as i understand that any T4 after 2000 ie phase 2, is.
ps i laughed at the having to change down a gear to overtake...i've never had to and i doubt you will either! jacq.

EDIT- please excuse apparent double post, I left myself logged in on Jacqs PC obviously, wasn't me that made the last reply.
Bargain indeed, be aware though, it will work much better with other more standard mods such as an exhaust, and possible bigger turbo. From the figs shown try not to be too dazzled by the 300 lb/ft, and take into account the 237 BHP It doesnt give the rpm's where they reach these figures, but by the laws of maths, assuming BHP peaks at 5250rpm, by 5250 rpm the car CANNOT be producing any more than 237 lb/ft. BHP is a number calculated from torque, which is a real force, and at 5250rpm bhp always equals torque in lb/ft. So what does this mean for the chip, well, it means theres an upping of boost most likely, loads more air, good low down torque and it gets up to 300 lb/ft, then due to standard turbo and exhaust I would imagine, it dives, and loses over 60 lb/ft by the time it reaches 5000-5500rpm. Would be better to see an actual curve from upsolute, to see how much of a power band it manages to hold up near 300 lb/ft Course you can always fit an exhaust and possibel hybrid or bigger turbo to sort it out and try and pull the torque up higher up the rev range, which will give more bhp as well. Good price for the chip though, but as Mr Donelly says, why is there no mention of a gurantee, or curve, just peak figures, worht a bit more investigating.

Hmm, Upsolute quote 370 Nm for this car, which is 268 lb.ft, so I would like to know where this 300 lb.ft figure comes from!!
Having said that, in answer to the title of this thread, yes you should chip it!!! Adam. |

268 lb/ft does seem to make a good bit more sense in comparison to the BHP figure.

RE: T4 01' Y Reg Auto. Shall i Chip????????
Hi there,
Thanks for the feedback. This is the reply from Simon at Upsolute. Hi Stephen, Well I’m glad you posted it on the forum, as the eagle eyed user has spotted an error in my figures !! Doh. My S40 figures are correct but my V40 figures had a 37Nm exaggeration in them which I can only apologise for !! This was a genuine error and certainly in no part due to my copying and pasting skills !! So you can tell them that for starters !!! I personally offer a 30 days money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with the upgrade. I’ve attached the amended figures and have also attached the 1948cc figures for the S40 (otherwise the same) as it has been pointed out on the forum that you may have this engine !!! It’s been a looooong week !!! I don’t have any curves unfortunately though as somebody has asked for :o( Just ask if you need anything…………………. Cheers Simon. 01' V40 T4 SE Sport Auto http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/dc/user_files/524.jpg |

Well assuming they stick to their word on the money back guarantee I don't think you have anything to lose. Spend the money, try it out, see if you're impressed and if not then ask for your money back and revert to stock.
