Big Miles
On my way home from work my 850 T5 clocked 300,000 miles.
Still doing 700 miles per week and it makes me smile every day. Only gripe is that because of my high annual mileage I get crucified come insurance renewal. Insurance now costs more that the car is worth and with the voluntary as well as compulsory excess if the car gets written off I get nothing. Quotes range from £540 to £760 on comparethesupermarket and a free rat like thing. I could get something smaller and cheaper to insure for work I suppose and put the T5 on limited miles classic insurance and be bored s***less. Nope... going to treat it to a cam belt and PCV -oil and filter gets changed every 5000 anyway- and may have yet anther go at fixing the aircon. May even wash it but rain is forcast this weekend. Going to carry on enjoying brilliant car.

It's been said many times before, but I certainly believe that the 850/70 series Volvos are just about the best cars ever built - and this does I think prove the point.
I often wish I still had my old V70. Crazy isn't it though, that for someone who clearly takes his motoring seriously, and is looking after the car properly, the insurance is so expensive. Have just been thinking about our multi-car insurance, and for two cars, an S70 and a Saab 9-3 TiD (chipped), fully comp, business use, two experienced drivers plus two learner drivers, the insurance premium is less than for the OP's 850. Bizarre or what. Jack |

Insurance is just a total con, unless you have a car less than 2 years old, you will always get screwed over whether an incident is your fault or anothers.
When I started driving about 10 years ago I had a fiat punto, it was group 2b/2c? (approx), I lived in a rural village with the lowest band of crime rate and about 6000 declared miles, a £1000 compulsory excess etc etc. I paid about £1250 TPFT. My GF at the time had a Yaris 1.5 vvti in the highest level of trim, lived in a scummy street in a scummy town, not the highest band of crime but probably second highest. Paid £550 for fully comp with a £350 compulsory excess and a £0 voluntary. She wrote it off, 100% her fault with another vehicle, got the full market value, then wrote the next one off in a ditch, then the third car got squashed by a run away truck on a hill whilst it was parked. 2 years down the line her insurance on a much higher category car was still about 1/3 of the price of mine, despite I've never had an incident. As I say, a con. |

I've found recently third party is more (premium) than fully comp on a lot of the quotes.

It may be your high mileage thats bumping your insurance a bit. My T5 was only £280 at the last renewal. However I'm only doing about 9-10k a year |
