Default S80 Strange Engine temp sensor problem

Hi all,
My friend recently bought s80 4.4 2007 .
He have problem about temp sensor.
When the car and weather is cold car will starting after 5-6 try and obd scanner tool showing that car temp is about -40 but the weather almost 0 . After car working idle for 15-20 minutes its starting to show normal temp and after that when we erased error code car is working normally.if we didnt erased the error code fans are working eating too much gasoline and smell of fuel.
we already tried to change temp sensor but nothing is changed.
What it can be?
The error code is ECM-P011600

Hi
Is it worth unplugging the sensor whilst you are monitoring it just to prove the value changes, to prove you have the correct sensor on the engine.
If it is the correct sensor and the reading is incorrect could there be a wiring issue? Bad connection, damage to cable etc etc.
Can the sensor be plugged in whilst out of the engine to dip it in boiling water to check it follows correctly.?
Try it with the old sensor first to save removing the new one?
Some systems are designed to give a definite low reading to show they have failed or are out of tolerance.. is it a genuine sensor or after market?

Iain
