Perhaps i'm being stupid but the hub nut doesn't rotate with the hub. The car will obviously be jacked up so I wouldn't have thought pressing the brake would make any difference ?
I'm new to all this so I may be wrong

Luke is very nearly spot-on with the reason and if it was a driven hub then would be spot-on but read on. However, there is another reason and that is the car is a heavy weight. It's on wheels though so any force applied will tend to make it roll. If one end is on the jack, this could be pretty dangerous. Also it's a waste of energy moving the car with your effort to turn the hub nut when what you really want is for all of your energy to go into moving the nut. Standing on the brakes turns the car into an immovable object so it works with you to shift the nut rather than trying to roll away from you.

Take that you m***er f***ing B***ard
I borrowed my mates impact driver and the nut came off a doddle
The bolts holding the splash plate ( what was left of it ) on were badly corroded and as they kind of look liked allen key head I had a go with that but they just rounded off inside. I ended up having to hammer a small socket over the head and my mate the impact driver did the rest Does anyone know if they actually are allen key heads ? I still cant tell as they are so badly rusted Happy days Now to start the clean up IMG_3410.JPG IMG_3412.jpg IMG_3413.jpg

Was that impact driver that dirty before you used it?
Vida is showing that it's a "hexagon screw" standard bolt Part number is 3516912
