235 to 255 on a XC40
I have just bought a 2020 XC40 fitted with 18 inch wheels with crap cheap tyres that I want to change. I am aware that the standard size is 235/55 18. The rim size is 7.5 and I see that tyres up to 255 can be fitted. I had Michelin Crossclimate 2’s fitted to my C30 and found them to be quite thin, with the alloy rim being quite vulnerable to kerb scuffing. The Michelin tyres seem to me to be not as wide as other tyres of a similar measurement.
Is this ok if I fit Michelin 255’s from an insurance or legal point and from a safety view? Or is there no point doing it? |
