I wonder, has anyone ever fitted one of these devices and then subsequently had the auxiliary belt fail and definitively had the cambelt saved by same device ?

There might be the odd occasion where a belt that's been replaced fails prematurely, but its rare. Most of the time, belt failure happens because people don't bother changing them. Neglected maintenance. You don't hear of many new belts failing prematurely, at least that I'm aware of. I'm not convinced that a shield, which by the looks of it has open gaps, is going to withstand the forces of a shredded belt.
