Default Key fob (Flick-knife) issue

Did a forum search with no results, so. Just got new car. Key fob, flick-knife type, works OK as manual key to lock and unlock but other functions not working. Battery was starting to rust and was seeping acid/alkaline (?) I've tried mopping the interior without splitting it open but new battery doesn't work either. Can this be salvaged and if so how please?

Sorry, I'm no use to the original query here but I also have an issue with my key in that the flick knife part doesn't flick any more , which although has no effect on using the car is seriously annoying as the key part keeps falling down whilst carrying the key or driving if not inserted the correct way
I have ordered a chinese volvo fob from ebay and was wondering if the blade of the original and innards can be transferred across relatively easily?
Thanks

If you read the listings on ebay they all say that you MUST transfer the innards from your old fob to the new one. Your new blade will need cutting to match the old one (Locksmith or alternative key cutter) Sadly I think my innards may have been fried by the leaking battery

Try drying the innards by burying the board in sodium bicarbonate crystals to neutralise the leakage. Then after an hour or so shake off the crystals and spray the board with switch cleaner or rinse in isopropyl alcohol. Refit Then fit a new battery - check you get the polarity correct ( the smaller diameter faces down) and test. If it still doesn't work, repeat with the board removed completely making sure you wash the printed (copper) side of the board in the switch cleaner/alcohol

Thanks gents, particularly ASt85. Now quite adept at cleaning and dismantling . Now it appears I can control the alarm on and off. Silly question probably but is there an isolator (fuse) on board the car that disarms lock/unlock/lights on the fob?

For future reference the forum search system does not recognise three letter words, so searching for key fob using the forum search tool will find nothing.

Google search is much better and can be used to search the volvo forum by typing this in the google search box:

site:volvoforums.org.uk key fob

When the trigger mechanism failed I bought a replacement body on eBay. I transferred the key blade across and VERY carefully chipped away at the glue holding the chip with a pin (chip and pin ha!) until I could remove it and glue it into the new body. I think it cost about a tenner.
