Default Water in the doors

Car went in yesterday for 2 days to fix said problem. Got a call today from them saying that a part they need (some kind of tape) was on back order and had to come from Sweden. They hope to have it by Tuesday but it's not guaranteed.

Normally this kind of thing would annoy me but as the loan car is an almost brand new XC90 Inscription, I said: "No problem, I'll hang on to this car until mine is fixed", not giving them the option of asking for it back in return for some other, lesser car.

Meanwhile, another day of driving the loan car has confirmed that the engine is much smoother and quieter than mine and there is less noise overall. The difference in the engine, especially under hard acceleration, is so noticeable that I'm actually wondering if there's something wrong with mine. Either that or Volvo have made big improvements without telling anyone.

Got my car back today. The 'fix' is just to put some sticky tape behind the outer rubber glass seal. Not sure how much difference that will make. There's an obvious design flaw in that the door drain is effectively sealed by the rubber surround of the door frame when the door is closed. How it got past the design stage let alone early testing is beyond me.

You'd think that new cars would have the tape fitted at the factory now... err, no. The brand new loan car piddles on the ground (see pic taken today) same as my two other cars. As 3 cars I've had do it, I assume all XC90s do.

Curiously, despite the loan car being new, it had the old Sensus display. And to top it all off, as I drove the loan car back to the dealer I got a warning message 'Start/Stop service required'. You couldn't make it up.

Doesn't bode well for keeping doors corrosion free in the long-term does it. Sticky tape? Seriously? Sounds like a typical British Leyland fix from the seventies.

I'd put money on rust eventually appearing along the weld seam at the bottom of the door. Another reason to think that this car isn't one to keep long-term or indeed buy second hand in future.

That will never happen, the same process is used going right back to 740's . have you ever seen a rusty door bottom on a Volvo in recent years ?
It is quite normal for the inside of the doors to be wet , water always seeps down there into the door , it is not a problem .

I'm aware that water inevitably gets into doors but I've never owned a car that lets water accumulate to the point that when you open the door it literally pours out. Any sensible design would ensure that the drain hole isn't blocked by the rubber door seal.

The fact that there's a TJ for it suggests that Volvo acknowledges the problem.
