Default S40 leaking passanger footwell

Hey Guys,

So after the huge amounts of rain we have had down here I have found a leak in my car, the passenger footwell is all wet and carpets are soaked. I know there is some known problem with some drainage on these cars with a sun roof ... but I don't have a sun roof, so I am really not sure where to look next, any ideas?

Oh no that's tricky, typical routes for water entry vary and can depend on parking flat or on a hill etc.

The rear light cluster can let in water on some cars and find its way onto the floor pan. Also the door seals and whether the 'splash guard' sheet within the door has been removed/disturbed.

Be worth checking the scuttle drains at the bulkhead within the engine bay just to make sure the little rubber outlets are free from dirt (you can squeeze and poke them about) not sure on the Volvo but some cars let water build up at the bottom of the windscreen and then it spills over into the cabin via the ventilation system.

Good luck!

I really hope I am knocking in the wrong door, but just to be safe make sure its only water and not the coolant. You probably heard some stories on internal heater leaking coolant due to plastic knee broken.

Hope you find the source of the problem asap!

btw - maybe put some protective foil over your CEM just in case its leaking that way, before you discover where the source is?

edit - just understood the "water in light" part so its probably related to upper leak - in that case, how about the seal between corners of windshield and the pillar? those are known to degrade in age aswell...

It's the windscreen seal. Had the same problem. If you place your palm inside the windscreen and push out you'll probably see movement along the sealing edge.
Not an uncommon problem
