I've erased it but it keeps coming back. The gear indicator on the dash is working though. No lights at the shifter.
For your fault my bets are on the ribbon cable being damaged

I'm going to hook up VIDA and see what it says

Yes, I drive with this message on the dash for several months now. Apart from that the lights on the shifter console are off and there is no gear indication on the dash, i.e. the car doesn't know which gear is on.

Hopefully I will get my car back from a local workshop tomorrow. They checked the DEM but it's not the cause so they don't know how to fix it...

To work on the problem yourself you need to have VIDA so that you can read the current faults (today, not yesterday) and see how they change as you work your way through various scenarios

Without VIDA you are trying to fix the car with your eyes closed....

Haven't had the opportunity to look at the ribbon yet. But I've been driving the XC over the past few days to work and have noticed that

- Geartronic can't be selected
- no lock up function which I believe points to the transmission running in 'emergency mode'

Hopefully it is the ribbon and I can find a used one.

There is only 1 error code in my XC90:

P0860 - Signal from the gearbox module to the gearbox contoller - Electric failure

Still no lights on the gear shifter module and no gear indication on the dashboard

I have exactly the same problem. All lights out on the centre console and can't see what gear I'm in, but the car runs fine. Reading this I can't tell if you fixed the problem and if so how.

I still have the same problem:
- The amber lights on the gear selector console are off.
- There is no gear indication on the dashboard. It used to be 1,2,3... and so on, now it is only P/R/D.

I already repleced the gear-tronic part, i.e. the part with the grey ribbon. This did not change anything - the lights are still off.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
