Default V70 D5 Misfire

Hi all,
My '02 D5 has developed an occasional misfire that's becoming less occasional... It started by just having a 'hickup' when on cruise control at 60mph, where the car missed a beat, the dash lit up (as it restarted) and it cruise control got disabled for the remainder of the journey. This issue is becoming more pronounced now, with it happening 2 or 3 times in a 20 mile journey. The car runs fine the rest of the time, but over the last few days, the issue has happened through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears under light and heavy load. I have changed the fuel filter, put redex through the tank and cleaned the air filter.

The car has done 180k and had the injectors replaced around 110k (due to the known fault with the 02 ones). The issue started approximately 3 months/2000 miles ago.

Has anyone had this issue and found a remedy? It's very unsettling when you go to pull away and you lose power.

I should also add that there are no error messages in the computer either before nor after the misfire.

Cheers

Do you keep your fuel tank above 1/3rd full? Have you had her hooked up to Vida/Dice?

Hi & thanks for the reply. The tank is generally driven down to about 4 gallons (2/7 full). My first thought was fuel blockages too, hence the fuel filter.

It hasn't been hooked up to a proper VIDA/DICE but it has been hooked up to one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

which shows no issues (although it does think it's a petrol...)

I think the reason for this question is you may have a transfer pump issue. You get low on fuel on one side of the saddle and rely on it slopping over from the other side. One third in 7th's is 2.33333 so you may be running out of fuel?

Just a thought!

Indeed. Perhaps an optimistic fuel gauge with a tank pump feeling it's age. If considering replacing parts, that would be my first move.

Is the car ok with a full tank of fuel then?

Sounds very similar to the symptoms mine had. It needed a new in tank fuel pump. Mine was only intermittently faulty, but got to the point where the car would go into limp at the slightest acceleration.
Using Vida, it would report a low fuel pressure code, but only whilst the engine was still running. It just wasn't there if the ignition was cycled, which is very strange.
Since changing the pump it's been transformed. Mine was on about 120k when it failed.

Whenever possible, try to keep the fuel level above 20 litres because below it the intank pump will run constantly and thus wears out. Long process but if you haven't yet replaced the intank pump, you might get away with no replacement.

Hmm. I initially thought that it was low fuel also. The problem SEEMS worse below half a tank, but it will still do it on a full tank occasionally.

After giving the car a quick blast yesterday, it did not do it for the remainder of the journey. However, after restarting, it did it twice in a mile .

Does this sound fuel pump related? It still pulls like a train when you put your foot down!

The gauge is the opposite - When I have a physically full tank, the gauge will only read 3/4, and the lower you get, the slower the needle moves! Hence, I gauge my fuel left on the mileage & mpg.
