Default v40 D4 Slowish off standstill

Not sure how to describe this,190 ps D4 seems a little lethargic in 1st gear off standstill , 2nd and 3rd it flies , it does a wheel skip changing 1st into 2nd.
It does not feel snappy initially off the mark , even revving it before releasing the clutch upon acceleration.
Drove a bi tdi mini (sd)170 seemed to out perform the v40 off the mark, volvo seemed a little quicker on the move.
A lot of cars seem to pip it up to 30.

Would polestar optimisation improve this ?
Is the engine mapped in 1st / 1st gear ratio's to aid traction /minimise wheel skip, must admit traction in wet winter is dismal.

Has anyone else noticed this. ?

Check the vacume line from the turbo as it could be routed In such a way that it is causing a restriction. A member found this on his xc60 with the d4. I am right in thinking yours is the VEA D4? Any how he sorted the routing and noticed an improvement. Just a thought before spending mega money.

Thank you for the reply Graham.
It is the Vea engine.
Just been out to remove the engine cover , the pipe is not kinked or restricted
, the pipe also has a mesh sleeve over it aiding support.
I feel its more of a characteristic of the d4 manual rather than a fault.

you get 14* days to get a refund on the polestar if your not happy, plus its £200 until the end of October I believe....

i'm not sure if it will help, an auto it would, but never heard anyone complain about it in a manual.

*disclaimer, check the 14 day thing with Volvo before blindly taking my advice!

Never heard that mentioned before but most diesels feel a bit sluggish off the line vs petrol.

Is this true that the Polestar upgrade is £200 and can it be performed on a 2016 D2 engine, if so really interested

Apologies, i meant to say £200 off, £635

Also i don't believe it available for the D2, there are other companies that offer remaps though!

Not sure about how the V40 D4 is set up, but some manufacturers of FWD models deliberately limit torque in first gear to reduce wheelspin and torque steer when getting off the line.

[QUOTE=v40tompointer;2321283]Not sure how to describe this,190 ps D4 seems a little lethargic in 1st gear off standstill .../QUOTE]

The D4 VEA engine is a twin serial turbo design - the smaller turbo ensures good power / torque at low revs, while the larger turbo takes over when boost pressure is up. My experience (granted, it is the 8-speed automatic transmission) is that there is no turbo lag and strong acceleration from standstill. It could be the TCV (turbo control valve) of the smaller turbo that opens too quickly or is stuck open ...

PS The engine / transmission management system ensures that the revs are always at optimum torque level - about 1700 RPM - and uses the 8 speeds of the auto transmission to good affect!
