Default 2002 XC70 2.4T on LPG

The time has come to part with our beloved ‘Stan’ the XC70 2.4T. He’s done us proud for 2 ½ years but we just don’t need a car as capacious as he anymore, and so he needs to go. He is a brilliant mile-muncher running on LPG and does 25+ mpg; we’re talking as good as 11p per mile on a run depending on the price per litre. He has helped us move house twice and do numerous DIY and building projects so I can’t praise him enough.

£985 ono - will get pics up this week

Vital Stats

2.4T converted to LPG (70 litre tank)
198k miles - still in daily use so will creep up a bit
MOT til 15th February 2018
Tax til 1st March 2018

Best Bits

LPG system fitted inc new vapouriser in last 3 months
2 new rear tyres fitted less than a month ago
Interior seats in great condition & still mega comfy
Air conditioning blowing ice cold
V70R rear anti-roll bar fitted - handling now lovely and neutral between under/oversteer
Phase 3 17” xc70 alloys - car looks way more modern than its age
New discs all round in the last 18 months
New MAF sensor in the last 6 months
New LPG filter and service in last 6 months
Ridiculous amount of service history
New front wheel bearings & driveshafts in last 3 years
Custom, stainless cat -back exhaust system fitted - still in great condition
It has not wanted for anything mechanical in my ownership nor the one before (see previous ad at bottom).
Geartronic auto box still shifting up and down really smoothly and locking up on top 3 gears (5-speed).
Grom unit fitted - can connect to phone/device via bluetooth
Tow bar fitted
Tailgate spoiler (retro)fitted

Room for Improvement

Bodywork has scuffs and scratches - the colour hides them well but don’t expect concours.
Couple of the alloys have been curbed but am sure could be refurbed without trouble.
Cambelt will probably need doing in around 12k/a year as last done at 98k miles.
Undiagnosed, occasional humming/vibration between 65 and 75 - something relating to road speed but not got beyond that.
Handbrake typically iffy per most phase 2s - it passes MOT every time but i rarely use it
Rear control arm / toe bushes need replacing - no issues at MOT but starting to become audible on bumpy roads.
Missing front passenger side mudflap - disappeared on a bumpy road(!)

Previous ad from February 2015 (Pacman67):
“If all goes well I'm getting into a newer motor next week so my xc is going.
2002 2.4lpt, with lpg 159k, mot due, so it will be traded or I'll mot it for someone on here, but I need it gone by Monday, I know short notice.
Car is silver, black leather, climate, auto. Has 17 inch 2011 alloys with very good avon htt tyres. S80 headlamps, rear spoiler, plus I've fitted, new alternator, front shocks, all drop links, pads and discs, front drive shafts, prop shaft, gearbox flush, cambelted at 98k, lower gearbox torque mount, both front wheel bearings, air quality sensor, regular oil and filters, but service book lost by previous owner, probably more stuff but I can't remember. Vida scan shows no faults. Also has cat back custom stainless exhaust. If traded and no buyers some stuff will come off, see ad for alloys. £1500 Ono. Also has towbar with oem wiring, new mudflaps all round, and grom unit, (may remove this), and 600k HID kit.
Lpg service and all new pipes, £160, new bosch alternator £250, hid kit £100, front bearings, £120, both front shafts £200, refurbed prop shaft £150, inner tie rods £50, drop links £60, discs and pads front mintex, rear spec £200, alloys and tyres £500, previous owner fitted lpg over a grand, and custom stainless £500 ish.”

Oooh! Out of curiosity does the XC70 have 4wd? Just seen it says refurbed prop shaft but thiught I’d ask anyway as never had 1 of these . I may be interested ( although Derby is a fair bit away from Glasgow!) and look forward to the pictures.
Cheers,
Steve

Whilst being taxed means it's legal for potential buyer to take it for a test drive, the moment it is sold it that tax becomes void, so it doesn't inherently add any value to the vehicle.

BTW, if this had been for sale this time last year, I'd have snapped your hand off as it was exactly what I was looking for.

This chap is looking for an XC70 so may be worth contacting: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...38#post2321438

It makes me sad to write this but the occasional vibration has escalated rather rapidly in the last few days and has been diagnosed as a failing bearing in the gearvix which supports the gearbox output shaft/flange on the passenger side. It is now audible at low speeds but the car still drives normally. Clearly i need to reflect this in the price as this isn't something that can be left for a great length of time. If you have and/or can fit an auto gearbox (aisin 55-50 i believe - same as many other fwd Volvos) then this is a fairly straight forward fix to an otherwise great car.

£550ono
