Direct Line threw my 21 year old son off the Volvo when I added Polestar as they insisted it was a modification of some sort, although in August they didn’t have a clue and Underwriters don’t speak to anyone who isn’t in their Ivory Tower. Would have been ok just for me..no charge
So we changed the car so he could take his own stuff to uni, £196 extra to keep him on the insurance for an RS6, so 572hp is fine as it hasn’t been modified!

I got the discount for Polestar upgrade but have decided not to have it installed so as not to have any future insurance complication or increased premiums when shopping around online which I do every year when my renewal notice arrives. Might not be worth the hassle trying explaining it every time.

You must be one of the most trusting dads ever. I didn't always trust myself in my old RS6. Seriously addictive power.

Ha ha yes, 0 to 6 parts of your IKEA sofa out of the back window in 4.6 seconds. I also leave him with no fuel so that also concentrates the student mind!

Don't mention the F-word - that's why mine had to go. Less than 10mpg around town became a bit hard to justify when fuel reached £1.50 a litre...

Polestar is still not available neither Denmark nor in france for the T8.
I don't believe it's a worthwhile modification on the T8 anyway, the car is powerful enough and the torque is good and rather flat thanks to the e-motor.

considered1, my son is also 21 and he is driving all my cars, 625hp and 440hp, in fact I trust him more than myself since he is so afraid to lose is license or to get a fine that he is driving MUCH more conservatively than myself....and, as you said, the fuel consumption has a very sobering effect on him.
the best side effect, besides giving him some sense of responsibility, is that my wife is lecturing HIM on how he should drive instead of me.

So to update...I ended up not getting the upgrade this time around. After the initial call with my provider, I did some shopping around to see what quotes I would get - and it seems I'll be getting an almost £400 increase at renewal time.

I checked a number of different comparison sites and all came back with the same-ish figures - really not sure what has caused this as I've not made any claims etc....so guessing it's a reflection of the area of I live in?

I'll have this discussion with my current provider at renewal time in December.

HOW MUCH??!!
Esure just wanted an extra £40 from me - and I thought that was bad enough!
OK, age and area will make a difference - but shouldn't be that much discrepancy surely...?

Off in a few mins to get mine done

Must phone insurance later to check cost Just not got round to It with work, family, holidays,... - good job there is the 14 day money back offer in case any insurance hike is prohibitive

I am with LV too, so hopefully it will be not much different to Busa's example. A couple of other changes in the last few months didn't affect premium, so I don't think this will much - but you just never know with insurance companies
