The REAL world says sub-30k for old model, £40k-plus for new gen. But if you prefer to live in fantasy land...

I hate to admit it, but I have just paid list price for mine, minus met paint.

I said no one pays list price for their car, perhaps you didn't read, or else prefered to ignore, that bit.

So where would you start in making a like-to-like comparison?

Dave, we are on a different wavelength. I am talking about cash actually handed over in a transaction. That’s the REALITY of buying cars, not like-for-like comparison of price lists. If you can’t see that, there’s not much more I can say.

I am talking about your reaction to the comments made by "ukden", not the actual price paid by purchasers who I have said will not be paying the list price. Please read my original post more carefully.

I have to agree with Xceed. The old XC60 was available with over 20% discount way before the new one was coming out. List price is only relevant to taxman and new adopters. Most buyers wait until prices settle. Then they compare what it will cost in either monthly costs or total on the road price. I have never and will never pay list price for a car.

We are all different and have our own standards. I have no objection to paying whatever is necessary to obtain what I require. My XC60 was due for a change and have waited a long time for the replacement to a 9 year old design.
I paid the list price because there were no discounts available and compared to the old model it’s worth every penny. I have no regrets.

Exactly, very similar to me, it's a great car and I have it before most other people and with all the options on that I wanted (unlike the latest offer cars).

The old XC60 was available at a big discount - perhaps because it was an old model and dynamically it didnt stack up against the latest designs - very comfortable and refined (which some of us want) but technologically and dynamically a bit off the pace.

The new model is a whole new kettle of fish and you can see why Volvo are trying to make the new list price stick to start with...as shown earlier it wasnt a mile different like for like but they are trying to lose the heavy discount.

The problem is that the market has shifted - with the downturn in sales - and its a market full of new arrivals to appeal to people. I suspect they will have to offer bigger discounts in time (as they are now with the XC90) and that was a turn off for me in terms of being an early adopter.

Plus my 3.0 V6 350ps Audi wasn't that much more than a similarly equipped 250ps XC60...

Like you I'm not regretting paying full list price for my XC60, I was able to order the spec I wanted, for my so far elite car, I'm not missing my diesel either, really impressed with the performance of my T5. I haven't seen another one yet, so now I've got two rare cars, Although I'm sure that won't last with the Volvo.
