Is the HU-850 coded in any way?
Just gave dad our 2006 S60 SE Lux and it's fine except for the stereo having developed the popping sound rather than actually working.
I don't want to send the HU off for repair, I'd much prefer to buy a working HU-850 and replace it for him. Are the HU-850s coded in any way or would I be OK to buy one off eBay and just swap it out (while battery is disconnected)? I have the necessary tools to clear any SRS codes that come up as a result of the swap but that's about it. |

Oh, it's OK, found out already...
No code, just gotta make sure to find an HU-850 from the same model year otherwise funky stuff can happen with the display and steering controls. Order placed, fingies crossed! |

I may be wrong but as far as I know, the SRS fault only happens when you remove the heating controls. you can just about twist+swivel them out of the way instead of disconnecting them.
unplugging the cig. lighter is ok if necessary. also, point to note, good place to hack in and hijack 12v for a dashcam Last edited by stuart bowes; Apr 24th, 2021 at 19:41. |

I have carried out the removal and refitting of the HU850 several times.
Turn the ignition key to position 2, disconnect the battery and then get stuck in. I was fortunate enough to find a working unit after asking on the T5 facebook page, I have no idea what year car it came from but it works perfectly. When reconnecting the battery ensure the key is in position 2 before reconnecting. The HU850 is really easy to disassemble, if you are handy with a soldering iron the popping fault isn't a difficult fix, if you are a hamfisted oaf it can be challenging. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp-sQMM3BAQ&t=381s |

Easy fix
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373548725...MAAOSwcsNgftFt Swap your multichanger into this unit or put the pcb from this unit into yours. It is easier to swap your changer into this one or fit this one with a grom or similar. |
