Why not fit aftermarket speakers? I can't remember right off, but the holes should be for 4" or 4.5". I didn't have to cut the panel at all, just drill the holes in different places.

I couldn't use the original trims on my new speakers, as the centre bit stuck out too far, but was able to cut the new speaker trims around the 'ridges' in the door panel so it fit nice and flush. It was a bit of a fiddle, and I had to use an assortment of rubber washers to get it tight against the door panel, but it worked. I drilled it straight through to the metal door as well so it wouldn't vibrate the panel.

Definately worth the work, as now I can have it louder than I'd like, but I can still hear radio 4 at 4000rpm on the motorway at 70 with the windows down!

... just don't get those honkin speakers with the big magnet, as it may foul the window. 'Normal' size speakers would work fine though.

Thanks guys. I'd like to fit originals to keep it OE. And don't need a big phat-arsed stereo in there ! But appreciate the advice.

I am leaning in towards my only properly working speaker in the morning trying to hear John Humphries !
