Nose/Jockeywheel replacement

Any advise gratefully accepted as to changing the jockey wheel.

Caravan :- Abbey Adventura 2004 model

Single solid wheel at the present gives problems on certain types of terrain when using the " Electric Mover ". I have been adiviced that a pneumatic front wheel would perform so much better. Further investigations proved that I could not change JUST the wheel (axles dimensions are different). Thus demanding changing the whole Strut and screw assembly.

Advice please on changing..

Hi,

I would think that you would be able to change the jocket unit completely with one that has a pneumatic tyre fitted.
It is quite possible to upgrade it with a number of different types:

So long as the shaft is the same diamater then you should be Ok..

if you go for a pneumatic they are fatter. Make sure it will raise all the way.

You need a complete 48mm Jockey Wheel Assembly.
Don't be tempted to buy the cheaper versions go for a genuine Al-Ko,it will be worth it in the long run as the cheaper ones tend to fall apart.Should cost around £50.
Fitting a Pneumatic will be ok unless on the twin axle Adventura which there can be an issue when man-handling.If you have ground clearance problems,just travel with the Jockey Wheel in the gas locker or the boot of your car then refit it on site.

Dont get one with plastic inner rim,go for steel,I have 2 plastic in my shed that keep going flat.I took inner tube out tested it ok put it back and goes flat. At £9 a time I gave up and put solid one back on. Look in Towsure site for one.

Go to your local caravan dealer who should have a selection available for you to select from. There are three Towsure shops around the country or any of the specialists who keep a store section. How about Peterbotough having a dealer possibly at the big site complex to the West of the town (where the steam trains run).

i totally agree.i have a twin axle van and had a mover fitted.i changed to a blow up jockey wheel.tried two with the plastic rim and both went flat at the first sign of heavy use as the tyre can be forced of the rim far to easily.get the largest diam.solid one you can find.
