XC70 Whereabouts is the cruise relay?
I've posted separately about the cruise control failure on my 2004 XC70 manual.
The 'cruise' light doesn't come up on the dash. But, although there is a cruise relay listed on Ebay for this year/model, I can't seem to find out where it on the car. Or, in fact, if it actually exists. Anyone know? |

Any relay fault would stop other parts of the engine managment system working..

Clan. Chapter and verse is on the other thread, but in a nutshell:
I don't have a code reader, I'll be hopefully catching up with a mate at the weekend who has a reader, but how much it will read, I don't know. No cruise light comes on. Brake servo sensor replaced. Clutch switch bought, but not fitted as opinion is that the fault is elsewhere. I can source a second hand steering wheel switch, but then I spotted an Ebay listing for 'XC70 cruise relay 1378076 up to 2008'. |

Thanks for that Clan.
I have an 'engine service required' message on the dash, but other than that, it's running very well. Looks like a second-hand Lithuanian switch and some airbag surgery. |

Here we go again.
There are many switches out there which look identical to mine but with different part numbers. Putting the vin into Skandix shows a cruise switch that bears no resemblance to mine whatsoever. I don't suppose anyone knows the correct part number. Or how to find it. |

After posting the above a thought occurs:
The switch unit on the Skandix site is roughly in the shape of a '7'. My switches have the 'cruise' button at the top, with the two control switches side-by-side underneath and a blank bit underneath them. Has someone fitted a later steering wheel? It's half leather and half wood. |

Quite likely the clutch master cylinder has been gently weeping fluid which has then dripped and contaminated the clutch pedal position sensor. Feel on and around the sensor for any clutch (brake) fluid "dampness".
Sensor is clipped onto and above the pedal. In my experience full replacement is the usual answer. Being a trained contortionist will likely help as access can be challenging, use a mirror. With a decent code reader, hopefully Vida, correct operation should be visible. After replacement of the switch try to protect your new switch in some way from further contamination. Don't go any further down the rabbit hole, perhaps change the switch in a process of elimination, especially if you, as you mentioned, actually have one in hand ? Part number likely to be; 9472979. Further to, it might be worth bearing in mind that in the (my) real world cruise control is rarely used and not really a necessity. Digging around perhaps somewhat randomly may result in causing more, perhaps expensive issues. Ultimately a Vida code read is, IMHO, the best first call. Lancee, Dave has made the same point. I have a new PFS sensor, so I will change it anyway (if I can). I'll report back.
Cruise is hugely useful to me, as I drive several thousand miles a year on very quiet motorways. I really don't want to be without it. |

well i feel the answer to your problem is what the fault code points to
